The Welfare Team

Ayeshah Ali

Hi I’m Ayeshah, a 4th year medic on the 5 year course. I’m from Leicester and before starting medicine I completed a BSc here in Biological Sciences.

This is my third year on the Medics’ Welfare team and I hope that this is a service that students will continue to feel confident using. I look forward to supporting you, should you need it, through this academic year, alongside side the rest of the team.

Katie Archer

I am Katie Archer and I am currently in my 2nd year of Medicine (5yr course). I am a post-graduate and have a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Birmingham. I have wanted to be a doctor since I was 13 and am extremely pleased to (finally!) be on the course! It is my commitment, determination and hard work that got me here and I hope I can apply this to the Medics Welfare as well.

I wanted to be part of the Medics Welfare team because I feel I can be supportive to other students. Having already been through university once, I have experienced the highs and lows, and can relate to the problems some students may be experiencing. I'm always here to talk to and will do my best to help students with any issues they might have.

Alex Till

Hey Guys, I'm Alex! I'm 20 and came straight to uni from school.
Last year I repeated the first year & am now eventually a second year on the 5 year course!! Actually starting to feel like I'm getting somewhere now! lol
I've not really got an amazingly interesting background but I'd like to think I'm friendly face for you to come and talk to if you've got any problems at all. So feel free to grab me at any point while I'm wondering around the MSB or drop me an e-mail at 'at170'

See you soon!

Scott Knapp

Hi, I’m Scott - I’m 24 and a current 4th year. I spent 18 months in Nottingham on a previous degree but decided to leave in order to pursue medicine here at Leicester. This is my third year with Medics’ Welfare and I am looking forward to working with the new team and to be of help to anyone who needs it.

I like to think I am very approachable and will be able to listen to any problems you may have. If I can’t sort it out immediately I should hopefully be able to find someone who can! If you have any questions don’t be afraid to just ask me.

Kate Blanckensee

Hey! I'm Kate, a second year (5 year course) who's bound to find it just as hard as you do! I don't really have an exciting story, I just came straight from college into a whirlwind of a year at Leicester Med School; now I want to make sure you guys have just as good a time as I'm having. I'm the "newbie" on Welfare but hope I've had enough experience to lend a listening ear and help you out if you're struggling with anything.

Medics' Welfare is a great source of support for you, however big or small your query or problem, so please feel free to pop into a clinic or contact me for a chat (kb163) :)

Jun Lee

Hola. My name is Jun Hee Lee and I am in my 3rd year. I am originally from South Korea, but I have lived all around the world, including Kuwait, United States (L.A.), and Canada (Kingston, Ontario), where I did my first degree in Psychology. Thus, I can truly say that I am an INTERNATIONAL student.

This will be my second year on the Medics’ Welfare team. I wanted to be part of the team since I heard about them during intro-week of my first year because I know how difficult adjusting to university is, on top of the fact that medicine is quite demanding. I would love to be able to take a load off anyone for any problems, because at times, all you need to know is that there is someone out there who is experiencing the same thing as you. Feel free to approach me at anytime. I promise, I don’t bite!

Nina Arnesen

Hi, I'm Nina and I'm in my 3rd year on the 4 year course. I am half Scottish, half Norwegian, having lived all over, including Norway, Italy, Scotland, Canada, Brazil and now Leicester... My previous degree from Edinburgh University was in Psychology, and before coming here I worked within mental health and learning disabilities.

It's my second year on the Medics' Welfare team, and I hope I can offer support and understanding to anyone who might need a chat or some advice. I know the graduate course can seem impossible at times, and I'm very happy to talk to anyone who has any queries, struggles or moments of total confusion!
