Meet the Team

Currently in the final year of the undergraduate course, having re-sat the first year and done a fair few qualifiers in my time I would like to think I’ve gained enough experience to offer good advice to help people out when they’re struggling. Particularly when it comes to coping with the pressures and strain all that extra work can cause.
I’m more than happy to speak to anyone and help out where I can, so please feel free to drop me an e-mail at at170@le.ac.uk whenever you feel like you might be struggling or even if you have a simple question and you’re just not sure who to ask it to!
Finally, the one thing I couldn’t live without would be a beer & a night out! Life’s not all about medicine so remember to have a break and a good time along the way!

My name is Katie and I'm in my final
year! Before doing medicine I studied Biological
Sciences at the University of Birmingham. Having been at university before, I am aware of a lot of issues that students have when they first go to university. Being a graduate I can also relate to other graduate students doing medicine. I have a busy life doing medicine, working as a healthcare assistant at the weekends and during the holidays, studying Wing Chun Kung Fu, being involved in Medics' Welfare, Sexpression and Teddy Bear Hospital, and seeing my friends! I'm always willing to help other students in whatever way I can, which is why I joined Medics' Welfare! ka123@le.ac.uk

i am in my 4th year of the 5 year course. I am an undergraduate and came straight from 6th form in South Wales to uni and some times feel like I'm a million miles away from home as it was my first time living away from home. I love sport, especially watching and playing rugby and am on the medics women's rugby team.
The one thing I couldn't have lived without in first year would have been my friends. I had a few too many times in first year where i needed someone to talk to and don't know where I would have been without them (I also couldn't have lived without super noodles!). My e-mail is gmc15@le.ac.uk
Hi, I'm Joe, a third year undergraduate. I run the Doc-to-Doctor project, an initiative to provide clinical skills teaching and practice to first year Medical Students. I have an interest in Medical Education and am a member of the BMA Intraschool Committee. During first year, I couldn't have lived without a laptop! Contact me at je88@le.ac.uk
Hey guys, my name is Niki and I'm in my second year of the undergraduate course. I took a gap year before university, which for the majority I worked, and then later went on a much deserved holiday to India. My three most favourite things  to do in the world are reading, yoga and dancing. My three most favourite things to eat are Nando's burgers, Nando's chips and Nando's mashed potato! One thing I cannot live without is my   bus pass, especially as I live in John Foster Halls - it is something that you should consider buying and trust me, you will definitely travel your money's worth! You can contact me on ny36@le.ac.uk
Hi, I’m Kate and I’m in my final year of the undergrad course – wondering where the time went! I’ve been around a while now but I hope that means I can give you a bit of useful advice if you feel you need some. I also organise our mentoring scheme, so if you want a bit of help academically I can put you in contact with another student who can support and tutor you. Contact me on kb163@le.ac.uk : )

Hey, I'm Matt and I am in the 3rd year of the Graduate Entry course, so like all the grads both four and five years I appreciate a lot of you have had to make some pretty big decisions and alterations in your life to be here. A feature of my University experiences is that I am always more than a little skint! However there's always more help out there than you'd expect, if you need some directions then email me at mjk21@le.ac.uk. One thing I couldn't have done without in my first year? Happy to say my group, always there and they have to listen!!  Matt
Hi, I'm Charlotte. I'm now in my third year - but I haven't made it without a lot of hard work. I have had my fair share of difficulties throughout my time at medical school - but I'm pleased to have made it into third year. In first year, I could not have lived without my photos to decorate my room! On the medics' welfare team - I'm mostly in charge of keeping the website up-to-date, but I am more than willing to help with any issue you may be having. You can contact me at cfh11@le.ac.uk
Hello, I’m Frances, I am 20 and am in my 3rd year of the 5 year Medical course. I took a gap year before coming here working in main theatres in Basingstoke hospital so I can relate to how it can be hard to get back into the whole studying routine, it does get easier.
Coming to uni was my first time away from home, and I am not going to lie I found adjusting harder than I expected, so if you have any worries about settling in or you just want a chat I am more than happy to listen.
Oh and if I had to choose one thing I couldn't live without in first year it would be Prof. Petersen - he is a bit of a legend in the Medical School, but my bus pass did come in handy many times! E-mail me ft52@le.ac.uk
