Q/ Are there any societies or services for LGBT medics at Leicester?

A/ GLADD is the Gay and Lesbian Association of Doctors and Dentists. We’re a national organisation, with a strong student contingent. There are events throughout the year, including student events and national meetings with qualified members. We’re primarily a social association, though are able to provide support and representation when members might need it. This can include helping you set up a Medics LGBT society at your MedSchool, and getting you in touch with local and national LGBT medics. More recently, we have established a mentoring scheme, where students are paired with qualified members. And membership is confidential.

On the 29th October, there is a Midlands regional event, primarily for students. There will be a Chinese meal and then a night out in Birmingham, where you’ll get the chance to learn more about GLADD, meet other LGBT medics in the area, and enjoy a great night out.
For more details and to be invited to the event, please get in touch with me or the GLADD students group.

Q/ My flatmates are being disruptive and preventing me from working effectively. What can I do?

A/ Firstly try speaking to them and explain how the noise is impacting on your work. Non-medics often don't realise the amount we work, so having a polite word is often enough to get them to reason with you.
If this doesn't work, try speaking to your sub-warden (in halls). They can advise you on the options you have. They should have made themselves known to you in the first few weeks, but you can get hold of them through your halls office.
If you're thinking of moving out, the accommodations office can help you. For more info, click here.
